Cinnablog #2: Bocados Bake Shop
Cinnalovers, incredible news.
As I type this, I am practically vibrating with delight. With awe. With what I like to call, the cinnamon bun afterglow.
This morning as I rolled out of bed (get it?) I had intended to traitorously purchase cookies. I know, I know. I was unfaithful. I was tempted by the sweet siren song of those soft, chewy, chocolatey discs, and I was ready to throw it all away. We came so close to ruin, my friends.
However, I was saved. While flirting with the idea of buying cookies from many of the local bakeries, I stumbled unknowingly into my salvation. As I entered the online store for Bocados Bake Shop, fully intending to continue down this unholy path I was on, there it was- as glorious and triumphant as the day I first laid eyes on it, ready to deliver me from my sins. Forgiving, loving. Cinnalovers, I'm not ashamed to say that I began to weep.
There I saw the Classic HolyRolly Cinnamon Roll. And it was 30% off.
The rest is history.
What follows is my review for the Classic HolyRolly Cinnamon Roll at Bocados Bake Shop, 923 Queen St. W, Toronto, ON.
Taste: The bun is so soft it practically apologizes for existing, while the cream cheese frosting adds a tangy wink before the sweetness swoops back in.
Texture: Fluffy, almost delicate bun. Smooth icing. A combined mouthfeel that just about melts in your mouth.
Presentation: This bun does not feel the need to dazzle us with smoke and mirrors. With a generous dollop of cream cheese icing atop a homely bun, this bun tells us that we can come as we are. That we are enough, and we always were.
Price: Bought for $5.95, usually $8.50. Now, this is more than I would typically pay for a cinnamon bun, but the reviews were incredible and I was in the throes of uncontained rapture, so I decided to splurge.
Atmosphere: I purchased my bun from an online food delivery service, so I did not go into the store. However, from quickly surveying Yelp reviews, it seems like a quaint, charming little storefront.
This bun held a depth that no chocolate-chip cookie could ever hope to achieve, no matter how momentarily mouth-watering. If anyone needs me I will be in my basement giving myself 40 lashes.
Let this be a lesson that we shall not stray from the righteous path, dear friends. Happy travels.
Stay gooey,
Cinnamon Bun Enthusiast
